Derek Oxford
Prior to joining Berklee, Oxford served as the senior director A&R at PULSE Music Group for the past four years. During his tenure, he focused on signing and developing artists, writers, and producers out of the major music markets of L.A., New York City, Miami, and Atlanta, and expanded his roster to cover the ever-blending rhythmic pop markets coming out of the Afro-Carribean, continental Europe, and Latin American and Asian global music markets.
Before working at PULSE, Oxford started in New York as a legal intern at the age of 17 at Serling Rooks & McCoy LLP while simultaneously becoming the first U.S.-based feature writer and A&R scout for the then-London-based music magazine DropoutUK. After covering the then-new U.S. and U.K. pop music singles and albums of the early 2010s—including Maroon 5, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, A$AP Rocky, Jaden, Willow, Major Lazer, MNEK, and Rita Ora—he later took his talents to complete career stints at start-ups, digital and print media companies, music video/commercial production houses, major record labels, and talent management and music publishing companies such as Serling Rooks & McCoy LLP, DropoutUK, Equator Productions, Luti Media, Time Inc., RCA Records/Sony Music Entertainment, and BMG.
A New York native, Oxford holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in consumer behavior and social entrepreneurship from the University of Rochester with additional studies in vocal performance, mathematics, music business, and creative technology.
