Two Track: Zami (Virtual Concert)
Two Track is a music video series designed for Berklee’s YouTube and social media channels that features artists in an intimate setting with only one microphone and continuous camera takes. Each recording session will revolve around a single theme (i.e., connection, love, dreams) that can be expressed by the artist either through their track selection or through a short storytelling segment that will be recorded as part of the performance. The videos in this series will premiere at specific dates and times, but if you miss the premiere, each video will be public on the channel in continuity.
This week features Zami performing an original titled "Thank You" and "They Could Be Wrong" by Lianne La Havas.
About the Artist
Singer-songwriter, performer, and poet Zami grew up in Philadelphia and is currently based in Boston. Classically trained as a vocalist, she spent many years singing in choir before developing a passion for writing songs at the age of 11. She pulls her inspiration from singer-songwriters with a soulful edge like Lianne La Havas, Sara Bareilles, and Corrine Bailey Rae. The influence of these artists has allowed Zami to merge genres like pop, R&B, folk, and acoustic arrangements in her own writing.
As a vocalist, she has performed in many venues on the East Coast, both self-accompanied and with her own band. In 2019, Zami performed as a featured singer in the Springfield Jazz Festival. Currently, she's attending Berklee College of Music pursuing her studies in songwriting. She is writing and producing her solo project that's due to be released in fall 2021.
Zami writes in order to ground herself and emote in a real and vulnerable way. She hopes that writing transparently will inspire young girls to explore the ideas of life, love, family, and beauty through music, and find comfort and healing in it, just as she has.
