Timeless Ragas, Modern Instruments
Berklee's Liberal Arts and Sciences Department presents Timeless Ragas, Modern Instruments, a master class and clinic.
Indian saxophonists Priyank Krishna and Shishir Kumar and American saxophonist Phil Scarff will perform the intricacies of the North Indian Hindustani and South Indian Carnatic music and will demonstrate the improvisational interplay of beautiful meditative ragas. These musicians will be accompanied by Anoop Banerjee on tabla and Avinash Shukla on mridangam.
Krishna is an eminent Hindustani saxophonist known for his delightful artistry and for breathing life into the raga form. Kumar is a distinguished Carnatic saxophonist known for his technical expertise and mastery of the instrument. Scarff is a pioneer of the performance of North Indian classical music on soprano saxophone, and exquisitely captures the music's subtlety and depth. Banerjee is a highly sought after tabla player known for his reverberating percussion. The young and talented Shukla is known for his rhythmic play on the mridangam.
