Considering Matthew Shepard
Celebrated Grammy–winners Craig Hella Johnson and choral ensemble Conspirare will perform Johnson’s new musical masterwork, Considering Matthew Shepard.
Led from the piano by Johnson, Considering Matthew Shepard showcases the award-winning artistry of Conspirare’s singers paired with an instrumental chamber ensemble. This three-part fusion oratorio speaks with a fresh and bold voice, incorporating a variety of musical styles seamlessly woven into a unified whole. Johnson draws upon a wide range of texts by poets including Hildegard of Bingen, Lesléa Newman, Michael Dennis Browne, and Rumi.
Throughout the work, Johnson also incorporates poignant passages from Shepard's personal journal; interviews with and writings from his parents, Judy and Dennis Shepard; and newspaper reports.
Johnson, who has studied with Berklee Online, and Conspirare are nominated for a 2017 Grammy for the Considering Matthew Shepard album.
