Pianist, composer, and educator Giorgi Mikadze(Opens in a new window) B.M. '14 presents a new body of work, Giorgian MicroJamZ, with guitarist and Berklee Professor David Fiuczynski, artistic director of Berklee's Planet MicroJam Institute, along with fellow alumni: bassist Panagiotis Andreou(Opens in a new window) and drummer Sean "Chopz" Wright(Opens in a new window).
A native of Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, Mikadze developed this project during his fellowship at 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica, California. Giorgian MicroJamZ explores the microtonalities of traditional Georgian folk music, integrating those structures into new musical motifs drawing on jazz, funk, fusion, R&B, African music, and hip-hop grooves.
This evening performs follows a 1:00 p.m. clinic the same day in which Mikadze will, along with the rest of the group and and Planet MicroJam students, demonstrate his innovative compositional process and microtonal performance techniques.
