Esteemed faculty of Boston Conservatory at Berklee—Judith Eissenberg, Anne Howarth, Patrice Jackson, Katie Lansdale, Matthew Marsit, and Rhonda Rider—collaborate with special guests Mark Berger of the Lydian String Quartet and Ricardo Sardiñas (PSC '25) to perform works by Ravel, Likhuta, and Schubert, showcasing their artistic talents.

The closing concert of this season’s Artistry in Action: Chamber Series kicks off with Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello, celebrating Ravel’s 150th birthday, followed by Catherine Lukuta's Lesions. The performance concludes with Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major, D. 956.

About the Artists

Guest artist Mark Berger, viola, has toured throughout the United States and internationally as a member of the Lydian String Quartet, performing the acknowledged masterpieces of the classical, romantic, and modern eras as well as premiering remarkable compositions written by today’s cutting-edge composers. In addition to his work with the quartet, Berger frequently performs with many of Boston’s finest orchestras and chamber ensembles including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Emmanuel Music, and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Worcester Chamber Music Society, and Music at Eden’s Edge. Judith Eissenberg, professor of chamber music, traces her musical roots to the deep and ever-broadening repertoire of the string quartet. She was a founder and second violinist (1980–2022) of the Grammy-nominated Lydian String Quartet, recognized for its depth of interpretation, performing with “a precision and involvement marking them as among the world’s best quartets” (Chicago Sun-Times). Anne Howarth, assistant professor of horn, holds principal horn chairs with the Lexington Symphony and Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, is a founding member of the mixed-instrumentation chamber group Radius Ensemble, and is a member of the wind quintet Vento Chiaro and the Juventas New Music Ensemble. Patrice Jackson, associate professor, is carving a name for herself as a gifted and charismatic cello soloist. Since winning the Sphinx Competition in 2002, Jackson has performed with multiple symphonies, including those of Atlanta, Detroit, Dallas, New Jersey, and Milwaukee, as well as with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Katie Lansdale, professor of violin, has performed as a soloist and chamber artist throughout North America, South America, and Europe, and as part of numerous concert series, including those of the Phillips Collection, the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and Lincoln Center's Rose Theater. She has made concerto appearances with the National Symphony, Austin Mozart Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Schroeder Classical Orchestra, Cleveland Chamber Symphony, New York Spectrum Orchestra, and the New York Repertory Orchestra. Matthew M. Marsit, chair of instrumental studies, is an active conductor and clarinetist who has led ensembles and performed as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician throughout the United States. Marsit has made solo appearances with the Keene State College Concert Band, Dartmouth College Wind Ensemble, and Handel Society of Dartmouth College. Learn more about Marsit.

Rhonda Rider, professor of cello, is a founding member of the Naumburg Award–winning Lydian String Quartet, with whom she played for over 20 years. Rider is also a member of the Triple Helix Piano Trio. Her chamber music and solo recordings have been nominated for Grammy Awards and cited as critics’ choice in both the New York Times and the Boston Globe. Learn more about Rider.
