The Berklee/BOCO Martial Arts club

The Berklee BOCO Martial Arts Club (Aka: The Berklee BOCO Dojo) was founded in fall 2023 by two martial artists at Boston Conservatory at Berklee who wanted to provide students at Berklee and the Conservatory with a free and convenient alternative to the martial arts gyms and dojos around Boston.

The club is meant to be a place where people of any experience, skill, or fitness level, can gather to share and learn various techniques from a variety of martial arts, to be used in an equally vast array of self-defense situations. Along with the teaching goals, the club also intends to support members physical and mental health and wellness outside of martial arts training. Meetings are every Sunday at Commonwealth 264, from 7:00 p.m.–10:00 p.m. Come on down and learn a thing or two!

Mission & Vision

Through the exploration and education of different martial arts such as Shaolin, karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, etc. members will develop a sense of situational and physical awareness, as well as an individually suited set of skills; applicable in a variety of self-defense situations. Equally, the club also strives to foster individual mental and physical health, wellness, and fitness through both modern and traditional philosophies, all while conforming to individual comfort levels.

The core values of this club are entirely founded upon the individual satisfaction of its members in relation to the training, accessibility, growth, and comfort of its members. Maybe it's a student who always wanted to learn how to defend themselves, but is discouraged by the high pressure environment of a dojo or training gym. or maybe they're an experienced practitioner who doesn't have the time or money to dedicate to continue their training, and simply needs a weekly refresher. The club is meant to serve as a costless and pressure- and judgment-free alternative to the gyms and dojos around Boston; a place where students are able to come and learn from their peers. Members are not pressured in any way to achieve a set standard, or be expected to attend every meeting, or to overwork themselves constantly. Expectations will be tailored to the individual, just like the set of skills they they develop in the club. Martial arts training is, after all, an individualistic journey, and taking things at one's own pace is a key aspect of that journey.
