The Berklee community’s participation is central to the development of Berklee’s mission, vision and strategic direction. Through webinars, in-person workshops, pop-up events, surveys, and meetings with campus groups, the steering committee has created opportunities to fully engage all areas of our community in review and dialogue to ensure that the resulting work reflects our community’s diverse and varied perspectives.

Prior Engagement Opportunities
January–March 2024: Strategic Direction Engagement
Through workshops, surveys, and meetings the Strategic Planning Steering Committee engaged the community in the development of priorities and focus areas for our strategic direction. Through surveys the committee asked students, faculty and staff to identify one to two important areas of focus for Berklee over the next 12–18 months. They asked alumni to identify how we can best prepare students for careers and how we can better support alumni. At the Berklee Teachers on Teaching conference and at department workshops, the Steering Committee engaged faculty and staff in the development of strategic priorities.
November 2023: Mission and Vision Draft Feedback Workshops
Charged with ensuring voices throughout our community have the opportunity to engage in this important work, the President’s Council and Academic Leadership Council facilitated workshops with their teams and related community groups to gather feedback about the mission and vision drafts. The Strategic Planning Steering Committee provided training and a toolkit, and offered facilitation support where possible. Feedback from these sessions will inform the development of the final version of the mission and vision.
September 2023: Mission and Vision Community Feedback
What is Berklee’s core purpose? What is your vision for the future of Berklee? Throughout September, the Strategic Planning Steering Committee provided both digital and in-person opportunities for all community members to answer these questions to inform drafting of the mission and vision, including a short survey, post-it boards at each campus, a presence at Opening Day, and food truck pop-ups.
September 2023: Community Strategic Planning Webinars
What is Berklee’s core purpose? What is your vision for the future of Berklee? The Strategic Planning Steering Committee held two webinars where participants discussed these key questions.
Summer 2023: Meetings and Retreats with Key Leadership Groups
Throughout the summer of 2023, the committee engaged key leadership groups at meetings and retreats, including President's Cabinet, President’s Council, Provost’s Council, Academic Leadership Council (ALC), Student Enrollment and Engagement Leadership Council (SEELC), and several administrative divisions. These groups learned about the strategic planning process through discussions and workshops and explored and synthesized key themes and findings from previous community input.
March 2023: Workshops for Students, Faculty, and Staff
Following the community-wide survey in March 2023, we gathered additional input and insights from the Berklee community through a series of two-hour workshops on the five strategic planning themes. Each working session, facilitated by the consulting firm B+A, engaged a large group of students, faculty, and staff.
February 2023: Survey for Students, Faculty, and Staff
In February 2023, we surveyed all students, faculty, and staff about the current state of Berklee and aspirations for the future to inform our strategic planning process.
