At the age of 20, Ethan Surman has spent a lifetime honing his craft. A true multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and songwriter, his work is a melding of pop music fervor and static bedroom recordings, rounding out an eclectic sound that skirts the lines of R&B, indie, and hip-hop.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Dominic Fike, Daniel Caesar, Tame Impala, Stevie Wonder, and the Beatles, Surman has formed an homage to the profoundly emotional works that raised him, encapsulated in passionate writings and lyricism as well as a visceral and moving live performance, slamming together characters collected from rock bands with vocalists who bring soaring harmonies while adding moving piano melodies.

A musician on the cusp of a bright expansion, Surman is now enrolled on scholarship at Berklee College of Music and has recordings with world-class producers in the works.

Born in Israel and raised on the beaches of Sydney, Australia, Soulboi’s love of melodic music and keyboard instruments shines through in his music. Growing up with a classical piano background, his technical ability is clear when hearing the intricacies of Soulboi’s work. But, through the love of early 2000’s neo-soul artists such as D’angelo, Musiq Soulchild, and Frank McComb, the feel and groove of that neo-soul movement is the driving force to Soulboi’s music. With love for jazz, pop, and hip-hop as well, the music represents a wide variety of genres that create a unique and wholesome sound with soothing vocals and thoughtful lyrics. With several new singles to be released in 2023, Soulboi is only just beginning to come into his own.
