Anna Clendening / Noah in the Open
You know that friend you can call at three in the morning on a weekday and spill your guts, heart, soul, and everything else to? Anna Clendening will remind you of that friend. The Chapel Hill-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter relates through unfiltered lyrics ripped right from her notebook, robust vocals quaking with emotion, and brutal honesty. These ingredients struck a chord with listeners everywhere when she released her RIAA-certified gold single “Boys Like You” in 2017. One hundred million streams and views later, she quietly established an unbreakable connection with fans who feel like family.
Acclaimed by Billboard, OnesToWatch.com, and more, her debut EP, Waves, generated over 150 million streams in under six months. Along the way, she joined gnash on the road and headlined her own Waves Tour. She also lent her voice to high-profile collaborations with Illenium (“Broken Ones”), Lost Kings (“Too Far Gone”), and Phantoms (“Say It”), to name a few. Signing to Atlantic Records, she dove into writing her 2020 EP and first full-length offering. It was during this process that she was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder—preceded by years of anxiety and struggles with mental health.
Now, Anna’s 2020 single “Get Me” reflects her growth. Lone guitar reverberates against breathy verses as her newfound confidence bleeds into the refrain, “You didn’t get me then, so you don’t get me now.” By way of this candor, the EP and album ultimately prove Anna is a source of universal encouragement. “I want you to be able to scream my music in the car. I want you to feel like the things going through your head are normal. I want you to feel empowered. I want you to feel loved,” says Anna. “I am loud. I am obnoxious. I’m very emotional. I wear sweatpants. I’m myself. I’m just human, man,” she smiles.
Noah Levine, also known as Noah in the Open, is a gifted producer and singer-songwriter known for his seemingly effortless blend of nostalgic sounds from the ’80s, mixed with the rising indie-pop genre. Noah spent his early years growing up in Austin, Texas with initial aspirations of becoming solely a guitar player. It wasn’t long until he discovered the recording and writing possibilities that began with an analog 8-track recorder, eventually progressing to the release of two full-length albums, an EP, and several popular singles—all before arriving at Berklee College of Music to study music production and engineering. With subjects typically connecting to an evolving younger generation, Noah conveys the struggle, confusion, heartbreak, and euphoria of growing up, through an indie rock/pop feel.
