Biography

Lee Burrows, a native North Carolinian, is the cofounder of UB Bancorp, and its banking subsidiary, Union Bank, headquartered in Greenville, North Carolina. He served as chairman of the board of this $1.2B asset bank until its merger with FNB Corp of Pennsylvania in 2023.

Burrows formed the Atlanta-based financial services investment banking firm, Banks Street Partners, LLC, in 2009. He served as the firm’s chief executive officer until the 2019 sale to Chicago-based Performance Trust Capital Partners. Burrows currently serves as vice chairman of investment banking.

In 1983, Burrows began his investment banking career working with financial institutions at Raleigh-based Trident Financial Corp./Trident Securities, Inc. This boutique investment banking firm focused exclusively on financial institutions nationwide. He joined Trident in 1983 as an investment banker and became a managing director and co-owner of the firm in 1987. Burrows helped to negotiate the sale of Trident to Cleveland, Ohio-based KeyCorp in 1999. While at Trident, the firm raised capital for 545 financial institutions in 47 states.

Burrows also serves as director of Carolina Finance, LLC, L. Harvey & Sons, Co., Harvey Fertilizer & Gas, Sid Mashburn, Inc., and Gleneagles Capital Management. Additionally, Burrows is the managing partner of Farmwheels, LLC, a multifaceted investment fund focused on investing in growing and vibrant businesses.

He is a former director of North Carolina-based trucking company Tidewater Transit Inc., Harvey Enterprises, Mallard Oil Company, and Carolina Finance Corp. Burrows is founding board member of Columbia, South Carolina–based ComSouth Bankshares, and its two bank subsidiaries, the Bank of Columbia and the Bank of Charleston, which merged with Anchor Financial Corp in 1998.

On the philanthropic side, Burrows is a trustee at Atlanta Youth Academy, where he has served for over 25 years. He is also a trustee with the Washington, DC-based Institute for Responsible Citizenship; a board member of the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; a trustee of the Hopeful Honest Initiative on Race and Understanding; and serves on the board of the Institute of Arts and the Humanities at the University of North Carolina. Burrows is a member of the investment committee of Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, and serves as a board member for the Atlanta Police Foundation. He previously served on the board of the Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry Forest, Virginia.

Burrows earned his BA in journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta. He lives in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife, Sunny, and three daughters.
