Berklee Global Jazz Institute’s 14th Annual Summit with Special Guest Kurt Elling
The Berklee Global Jazz Institute will be celebrating its 14th anniversary with this concert featuring talented BGJI alumni and students performing original compositions inspired by jazz and poetry. The summit also will host acclaimed faculty and visiting artists, including BGJI Artistic Director Danilo Pérez alongside special guest vocalist Kurt Elling, one of the world’s foremost jazz vocalists, referred to in The New York Times as “the standout male vocalist of our time.” In addition to Elling, the concert will include drummer and producer Terri Lyne Carrington and jazz saxophonist Joe Lovano, the college’s Gary Burton chair in jazz performance.
In addition to serving as artistic director of BGJI, Pérez is a social activist, humanitarian, and leading proponent of global jazz. His music is a blend of Panamanian roots with elements of Latin American folk music, jazz, European impressionism, and African and other musical heritages that promote music as a multidimensional bridge between people.
