Fresh Prospects: Botero + Mikaela Gatto
Come see two aspiring musicians and Berklee students. Botero and Mikaela Gatto will perform for the Fresh Prospects Series, a showcase of the best up-and-coming artists attending Berklee.
Juan Botero has been playing music since the early age of 8, and has been writing and producing since late 2017. Botero began releasing music with his close friend under the name Green Peach, a project that lasted about a year. Shortly thereafter, Botero began releasing music under his last name. He has released two full-length EPs, Rose Colored Glasses and Some Kind of Normal. He now lives in Boston and is attending Berklee College of Music.
Botero’s primary goal with his music is to instill a sense of optimism in his audience, especially being in a world that tends to lean towards despair and fear. He also addresses things like love, identity, and loneliness in his music.
Berklee student Mikaela Gatto is a singer-songwriter, producer, keyboardist, and electronic digital instrumentalist originally based in Reading, Pennsylvania. Paired with her intentional lyrics, Gatto’s songwriting flourishes in her music production process, a means of storytelling with new sounds inspired by the holy spirit. Within her unique production style, she marries moving vocals with profound harmonies—a fresh combination of electric and acoustic beats, and an array of electronic basses and synths that play nicely with live instruments.
Gathering inspiration from Jon Bellion, AJR, Kalley, Kings Kaleidoscope, and half alive, Gatto is bound for impact in the electronic-pop industry. Her self-written and produced debut EP, Daybreak, was released in 2021 as the opus of this fresh, talented, young pop artist. Gatto’s music follows a design to ultimately bring glory to the creator. With new music on the way, she hopes that her journey may be a vessel in which God freely speaks and moves.
