The Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice Launches Bandcamp with Exclusive Original Scores

The Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice has launched a Bandcamp page highlighting the pioneering compositions of women in the field, including those at Berklee. The page includes original scores from the 10 women who were awarded the first-ever Score Compilation Grant, which allowed recipients to create digital collections of their scores in the Berklee Library. The inaugural recipients of the grant were Melissa Aldana B.M. '09, Courtney Bryan, Marilyn Crispell, Ingrid Laubrock, Nicole Mitchell, Tineke Postma, Michele Rosewoman, Shamie Royston, Angelica Sanchez, and Helen Sung—all of whom are highlighted on the Bandcamp page.

Created as a resource for the international music community, libraries, and other institutions, the institute's Bandcamp platform will sell digital scores of various leading women composers in jazz, some of which will be exclusive to the site. The page will also feature prominent jazz artists within and beyond Berklee, such as Linda May Han Oh, associate professor of bass; Allison Miller; and Myra Melford.

“Equity and accessibility are key tenets of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, and I am thrilled to oversee and contribute to this Bandcamp page highlighting important female voices in jazz, including our 10 Score Compilation Grant honorees,” said Kris Davis, associate program director of creative development for the institute and one of the featured artists on the Bandcamp page. “It is my sincerest hope that anyone who wants access to this incredible work can now purchase it directly from the artists on this Bandcamp platform.”
