Under the watch of a stock computer camera and above a gaffer-taped digital keyboard, singer-songwriter Tate McRae broadcasts unfiltered and undeniable feelings from the heart. By age 16, the artist from Calgary, Canada, amassed 129 million YouTube views and 90 million cumulative streams.
“Tear Myself Apart,” her 2019 debut single for RCA Records, features a singular style, pairing stark piano and static beats with vulnerable verses.
“My songs are all of the words I can never say,” McRae says. “Writing is how I let out everything that’s happened to me. It’s my way of really communicating.”
