Mary Lambert Visits Berklee for Mental Health Awareness Week

Berklee welcomes singer, songwriter, and poet Mary Lambert to its campus on Monday, October 7, for two special events taking place during Mental Health Awareness Week.

Note that both events are free for members of the Berklee community but are not open to the general public.

At 1:00 p.m. Lambert joins Leah Driscoll, director of health and wellness programs, for a Reach Out talk and visiting artist clinic at Berk Recital Hall. Known for being candid about her traumas, bipolar disorder, body image, and sexuality, Lambert, who releases her new album, Grief Creature, on November 15, will discuss her struggles with mental illness and how artists can serve as mental health advocates in the entertainment industry.

In keeping with Berklee's mission to develop and nurture the professional and personal growth of students, the donor-funded initiative Reach Out assists in providing specific education, outreach, programming, and resources on substance use and abuse; sexual assault and interpersonal violence and abuse; and mental health awareness. Previous Reach Out speakers include Amanda Palmer, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, Big Freedia, and Kelly Price, among others. Students will be able to ask questions following the discussion. This event is closed to the public.

At 8:00 p.m. that evening, Lambert will perform at the Berklee Performance Center as part of Berklee's Mental Health Awareness Week Showcase. This concert will feature student performances of vocal, instrumental, spoken word, dance, and visual art that champion the importance of advocacy for mental health support and services for all. Representatives from community mental health organizations will also be present to provide resources and support information.
