Simone Torres Preaches Versatility at Berklee Clinic
Grammy-nominated engineer and vocal producer Simone Torres B.M. ’15 visited campus last week to share her experience with students. “I tried to make my skill set as diverse as possible,” she said, speaking about her time at Berklee to a standing-room-only crowd at the Shames Family Scoring Stage. "Whatever your role is, play it super well.”
Under the guidance of five-time Grammy-winning vocal producer Kuk Harrell, the music production and engineering and music business/management graduate has worked with musicians such as Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Camila Cabello, and others. Though she knew she didn’t want to be a singer, she emphasized the importance of musicianship in her engineering career, alongside her technical know-how.
“The fact that I tune like a singer—and not like an engineer!—has helped me so much in my work,” Torres said. She also spoke about the importance of empathy when working with vocalists and other music professionals.
“We're in the people business... How much you care about people plays into your story: all the little things.”
