Open Enrollment for 2019 Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to enroll in Berklee’s plans? What happens if I don’t take action?
All of your current benefits will continue except for flexible spending accounts (FSAs), both health care and dependent care. Any new elections made during Open Enrollment will become effective on January 1, 2019.
This is your chance to think about other things that you can change at any time:
- Increase or decrease your 403(b) retirement contribution.
- Update your beneficiaries for your Berklee life insurance and 403(b) accounts.
- Sign up for pre-tax commuter benefits.
How do I know which of the four medical plan options is best for me?
Everyone has different medical needs, and only you can decide what’s best for you and your family. To start, think about what your usual medical services are and how much they will cost you based on each of the medical plans. Find your doctors in the Tufts network to be certain they are in-network providers.
How do I find a primary care physician or specialist in the Tufts network?
To find a Tufts Health Plan network provider, visit the Tufts Health Plan website.
Do I have to submit supporting documentation if I enroll my dependents in the medical, dental, and voluntary life insurance programs?
Yes. Be prepared to provide a copy of a birth certificate for children younger than 26 and a copy of a marriage certificate for your spouse. Send your supporting documentation to WageWorks, not to Human Resources.
What will happen if I currently have a health care or dependent care flexible spending account (FSA)?
You must re-enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) every year since they do not carry over from year to year. If you have a balance of $500 or less in your health care FSA for 2018, the balance will roll over into your FSA account after April 1, 2019.
How do I find a dentist in the Delta Dental Network?
Go to deltadentalma.com.
My dentist is not in the Delta Dental network. Can I continue to receive services from him/her, or do I need to find a Delta Dental participating dentist?
You may receive services from your current dentist. However, please keep in mind that by using a dentist that participates with Delta Dental, your cost will be less.
Will I receive my new medical and dental cards before January 1, 2019?
Once Open Enrollment ends, your 2019 elections will be sent to our insurance carriers, and if you are enrolling for the first time, your new identification cards will arrive in late December.
What is the difference between Roth and traditional (pre-tax) 403(b) retirement contributions?
With a traditional 403(b), your contributions are deducted from your pay before taxes, reducing your taxable income. Taxes are eventually paid when you withdraw your funds after retirement.
With a Roth 403(b), your contributions are deducted from your pay after taxes. This means that you will not pay taxes when the money is eventually withdrawn following retirement if you meet certain requirements. Contact Transamerica for more information (1-800-755-5801).
