Onboarding

The first few days of new employment can be overwhelming. You might be asking yourself, "What do I need prior to my first day?" or "When do my benefits start?" Answers to these and other questions about starting employment at Berklee can be found below.

Onboarding—Before You Start

You will receive your offer letter and a link to our onboarding system, called Workday, which facilitates the completion of required new-hire paperwork.

Background Check

After printing completing the background check forms in Workday as part of your on-boarding, please stop by the Human Resources office to sign the forms and present your ID. You can also take these to a notary if you are not able to come into the HR office before you begin work.

I-9 Form

In order to stay compliant with federal employment laws, all employees must complete an I-9 Form. Part One of the I-9 form can be done via Red Carpet and elecronically signed. Please note that this section must be completed before or on your start date.

Upon completion of Part One (and within three business days of your start date), you then must come to the Human Resources office to present your IDs. All IDs must be unexpired and be originals; copies are not accepted. Acceptable IDs can be found on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

New Hire Orientation

New Hire Orientation (NHO) is offered on the first Monday of the pay period at 9:00 a.m. throughout the year. Benefits information will be presented at NHO. For questions regarding New Hire Orientation Day, please contact Bill Stallworth at bstallworth@berklee.edu. As a new employee, please report to Human Resources, located on the fourth floor of the 855 Boylston Street building, on the morning of your first day. If it is a NHO day, you will spend the half of the day with Human Resources. If not, you will complete all outstanding paperwork, including providing your I-9 documents, and then return to your department for the remainder of the morning. Please remember to bring the appropriate identification required for your I-9 form. For questions, please contact Bill Stallworth at bstallworth@berklee.edu.

Orientation includes an introduction to Berklee’s culture, policies, procedures, and we'll go over why Berklee is great place for learning, teaching, and working. Guest speakers from different departments such as Technology & Training Support, Benefits, Public Safety, Diversity and Inclusion, and others will give you an overview of their department, its role on campus, and how it relates to your employment at Berklee.

NHO dates for 2023 can be found on the New Hire Orientation page.

Benefits

Your first day of benefits coverage begins the first of the month after you are hired. For example, if you are hired on September 20, you will be covered effective October 1. Check out the benefits page for more information about all the different benefits and perks that Berklee has to offer.

Although benefits is covered in the all-day New Hire Orientation, we also have separate benefit orientations.
