The Bill Pierce MLK Scholarship Fund
The Association of Faculty and Staff of African Descent has established a scholarship to be awarded to currently enrolled Berklee students who work to benefit communities of African descent on or off campus.
The Berklee College of Music Bill Pierce MLK Scholarship Fund, established by the Association of Faculty and Staff of African Descent (AFSAD) in 2009 with a generous initial donation from former faculty member Walter Beasley, with additional and ongoing contributions from Berklee faculty, staff, and students, community friends of the college, and Berklee’s Faculty Union led by president Jackson Shultz, recognizes Berklee student leaders with demonstrated financial need, who are within two semesters of completing their degree (six semester level or higher), on the basis of academic performance, extracurricular participation, and outstanding community involvement that benefits communities of African descent (on or off campus).
Recipients of the scholarship are expected to continue the tradition of giving back in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
