Biography

Susan Whitehead, board chair emerita, has served on Berklee's Board of Trustees for almost 20 years. She is also a current trustee of MIT (lifetime trustee), Whitehead Institute (founding member and lifetime trustee), ACLU of Massachusetts, and the U.S. foundation board of the Museum of Art and Photography in Bangalore, India. In addition to serving as the chair of Berklee's board, she has served as board chair of the following organizations: Horizons for Homeless Children, the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts, Bayview Correctional Facility in New York City, the Research Institute of Learning and Development, and Whitehead Institute. Earlier in her career, Whitehead was a trial attorney in private practice in Boston and also has experience as an assistant district attorney in New York City. She directed a clinical program at Brooklyn Law School; worked for the ACLU in Jackson, Mississippi; and developed a comprehensive education program for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Whitehead is an avid hiker and skier, and is passionate about the performing and visual arts.
