1.01 Equal Employment Opportunity

Policy No. 1.01

POLICY: Berklee is committed to providing fair and equitable consideration of all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, ancestry, age, national origin, place of birth, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, disability, genetic information, or status as a member of the armed forces or veteran of the armed forces, or any other category protected by federal, state, or local law. Diversity is a source of strength for Berklee. Equal employment opportunity (EEO) achieves and sustains our commitment to diversity.

Berklee bases its employment decisions on the principle of equal employment opportunity. All staffing decisions including, but not limited to, recruitment, hiring, training, promotion, compensation, benefits, transfer, reductions in force, tuition assistance, and social and recreational programs are administered in accordance with the institution’s commitment to create a workplace that is fair, equitable, and free from discrimination.

Regulatory Compliance: Berklee does not discriminate and maintains compliance with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX, and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws.

EEO Compliance: The vice president of Human Resources serves as Berklee’s EEO compliance officer. Along with the associate vice president of Diversity and Inclusion, all directors, managers, and supervisors are responsible for implementing equal employment practices within each department. Human Resources is responsible for overall compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

Individuals who believe they have been discriminated against by Berklee may file a complaint with the senior director of Employee Relations and Staffing or the associate vice president of Diversity and Inclusion by calling 617-747-3156 or by sending a written complaint to Human Resources at hroperations@berklee.edu.
