DOMi and JD Beck to Perform at the Red Room at Cafe 939
On February 12, DOMi and JD Beck will perform at the Red Room at Cafe 939 at Berklee. Having received worldwide acclaim for their personal brand of jazz music, the duo continue to push the boundaries of the genre, incorporating hip-hop breakbeats, synth harmonies, and instrumental virtuosity into their music. Tickets are $10 for the general public (standing room only), and are available now.
DOMi (a.k.a. Domi Degalle) is a graduate of the National Conservatory of Paris and currently studies at Berklee under a full Presidential Scholarship. She has performed alongside acts such as Robert Glasper, Mac Miller, Louis Cole, and many more. Beck, a 16-year-old drummer and producer from Dallas, Texas, began his career at age eight, and started producing music at age 12. He performs as a sideman with acts such as Anderson .Paak and Anna Wise ‘10, among others. The duo, who first met through Robert Searight II of Grammy-winning jazz band Snarky Puppy, have received attention from acts such as Thundercat, will.i.am, and Skrillex for their instrumental virtuosity and jazz innovation.
“Our process is the same when we create as well as when we play live,” says DOMi. “We just let go of everything and focus on our ideas, communication between the two of us, and love for creating on the spot.” Known for their kinetic live shows, DOMi and JD Beck look to push the boundaries of jazz by putting their own personal spin on the genre, letting the power of the music speak for itself. “Jazz history and music theory are only a small part of what music is. Our goal is to deliver deep emotions, so if the listeners can be part of our music without knowing the third Messiaen mode, then we might have succeeded.” continued DOMi.
DOMI and JD Beck’s performance will be webcast live from WBGO in HD video, as part of WBGO’s multimedia concert series, the Checkout—Live at Berklee.
