The Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Berklee believes in the importance of building communities that foster a sense of belonging, mutual respect, and learning for all Berklee community members, taking into account every aspect of their individual identities. Within the scope of our work, these identities include, but are not limited to, race, ethnicity, ability/disability, sexuality, gender identity/expression, religion, financial status, nationality, and many others.
A core mission of our work is to deepen awareness, knowledge, skills, and practices across our community in order to effectively engage across the rich tapestry of differences in backgrounds and identities within all of Berklee’s learning environments and the world.
We are committed to:
- Creating brave and safe spaces to foster a sense of belonging Listening to our community’s needs and advocating for change
- Celebrating individual expression, cultural differences, and intersectionality
- Supporting the educational DEIB learning journey of our faculty, staff, and students
- Empowering and supporting personal and professional advocacy and self-reflection
We accomplish these commitments through:
- Organizing social and educational opportunities for personal and professional growth, such as outreach events, community events, trainings and workshops
- Facilitating conversations and dialogues on issues that affect the performing arts community and beyond
- Developing and strengthening strategic partnerships with campus and student leaders to cultivate and foster a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable community through institutional engagement, education, resource sharing, and programming
