Advanced Conducting (Instrumental)

Description

This course will give students the knowledge, tools, insights and opportunity to develop and refine individual conducting skills. During the course students will cultivate a comprehensive understanding of effective and efficient rehearsal techniques, verbal and non-verbal communication, artistic gestures and meaningful rehearsal strategies. Specific nuances/challenges related to working with public, private, and home-schooled students will be studied. Additionally, selection of proper literature will be addressed along with techniques of meaningful score analysis.

Throughout the semester students will be assigned articles and book chapter readings that will be the basis of class discussions. Students will be expected to practice conducting outside of class and be prepared to conduct often in class. Students may be expected to upload small segments of their conducting for assessment as well as attend and review performances.
