Pablo Milanés's Legacy featuring Miguel Núñez and Pavel Núñez
Berklee will pay tribute to Cuban composer, vocalist, and guitarist Pablo Milanés by bringing his pianist and long-time musical director Miguel Núñez and singer-songwriter Pavel Núñez, who shared the stage with Pablo Milanés, together in this performance.
Milanés was one of the founders of the musical style nueva trova, which combines traditional folk music with political lyrics. Milanés recorded over 40 albums, and was celebrated in Cuba, throughout Latin America, and the world. Some of his popular songs are "Yolanda" and "De Que Callada Manera."
Miguel Núñez started working with Pablo Milanés as a keyboardist and musical director during his final year of college. He toured with Pablo in over 30 countries, arranged for Milanés, and produced a number of his albums.
Pavel Núñez is one of the most important artists from the Dominican Republic. Pavel has won 11 Premios Soberanos, an Emmy, and has been nominated for four Latin Grammys. Besides being a touring and recording artist, Pavel has worked with Juan Luis Guerra, Alejandro Sanz, Sting, among many others.
For this concert, Miguel Núñez and Pavel Núñez will perform with a large group of student musicians, celebrating the music of Pablo Milanés with arrangements by student writers. The concert is directed by Oscar Stagnaro, Matthew Nicholl, and Lee Abe.
