Fresh Prospects: People Music / Trio Going
People Music will perform as part of the Fresh Prospects series—a showcase of the best up-and-coming artists attending Berklee. People Music is a new artistic project led by Berklee pianist, composer, and producer Preston Gasser, which aims to synthesize life’s many-splendored nuances of mind and body into a unified contemplative and therapeutic experience that will help lead the listener toward fuller self-realization.
Gasser’s compositions transform chords into landscapes and melodies into stories, as his rich ensemble of five horns, a rhythm section, and keys blend jazz, fusion, pop, and more into a unique, holistic, and accessible performance.
Trio Going is a jazz collective including Anson Chen, Joe Tavarez, and Malik Winfield. The group aims to create music that expands beyond what traditional jazz sounds like while still maintaining the influence of Black American music. They utilize a mix of head-bopping tunes, catchy melodic lines, and improv to create an engaging experience while performing music that can be more digestible for a contemporary audience. The music chosen will be a mix of original compositions and covers of songs by their top influences in neo-soul, R&B, and hip-hop.
