Lynn Gonzalez
Lynn Gonzalez is the senior vice president of business and legal affairs for East Coast labels at Universal Music Group, and is the lead attorney for Def Jam Recordings. In her current role, she manages the label’s business and legal matters in connection with artists such as Logic, Kanye West, Big Sean, Bishop Briggs, YG, and Justin Bieber. Prior to her time at Universal, Gonzalez was an attorney at Atlantic Records and served as counsel for Razor and Tie Entertainment, an independent record label and media company.
She also worked as an adjunct professor at Hunter College in New York City, teaching a class on the music industry and copyright basics, and she began her career as an associate in the Intellectual Property Department at the Wall Street-based law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan LLP. Gonzalez has a passion for mentoring and is proud to have been a founding member and past president of the Black Women in Entertainment Law Foundation, a non-profit organization that provided mentoring and scholarships for women of color interested in entertainment law.
She received her Bachelor of Music degree from New York University, where she majored in music business, managed the school’s popular radio station, WNYU, and produced and hosted a long-running underground hip-hop radio show called The Halftime Show. She went on to complete her first year of law school at the University of Southern California School of Law before transferring to NYU Law School, where she obtained her J.D. after studying for a semester at the University of Amsterdam School of Law in the Netherlands.
