During October 2013, Berklee celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Berklee International Network in Boston and hosted events for leaders from member institutions.

As we launch into 2014, we have much to celebrate. Berklee has had great success on the Boston campus and with a growing catalog of majors, minors, and institutes. Our campus in Valencia is buzzing with graduate and undergraduate students and Berklee Online is poised to launch online degrees in September.

This excitement is augmented by the addition of six new Berklee International Network (BIN) partner institutions, including Baron School of Music in Hong Kong; Conservatorio de Artes Del Caribe in San Juan, Puerto Rico; EMMAT in Bogotá, Colombia; Holland College in Prince Edward Island, Canada; Escuela de Música Contemporánea in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and JMC Academy in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, Australia.

These institutions joined our current partners for the 20th anniversary celebration and summit in Boston, which culminated in a concert at the Berklee Performance Center showcasing students representing the member institutions. This organization of schools has reached thousands of students around the world and given them access to high-level contemporary music education and innumerable connections to contacts throughout the industry. Our partnerships have also expanded into China, where President Roger Brown, Senior Vice President for Innovation Strategy and Technology David Mash and Vice President for Enrollment Mark Campbell signed collaborative agreements with the Communication University of China in Beijing, Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou in early December. These relationships will help Berklee connect with the wealth of cultural and musical traditions in China and to the large number of talented young musicians throughout the country.

In addition to expansion of the Berklee International Network, we are adding new Berklee on the Road programs to reach more students around the world. In January we will hold new programs in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and Mexico City, Mexico. Honorary doctorate recipient Juan Luis Guerra ’87 will be the artist in residence in Santo Domingo, while professors Javier Limón and Oscar Stagnaro will lead the program in Mexico City.

In Bogotá in early March, Berklee will launch a program that includes Berklee’s Songwriting Department Chair Bonnie Hayes; Program Director for Music Technology in Valencia, Spain, Stephen Webber; and Music Business/Management Department Professor Peter Alhadeff.
