Pretty Saro(Opens in a new window) is a four-piece bluegrass string band composed of students in the American Roots Music Program at Berklee College of Music.
In early 2016, the band burst onto the bluegrass scene in Boston, Massachusetts, shaking up the definition of American roots music. Since then, Pretty Saro has crafted an invigorating blend of contemporary songwriting, bluegrass traditionals, and pop sensibilities into a sound that is uniquely its own.
The band—featuring Maxfield Anderson (mandolin), Devon Gardner (fiddle), Alex Formento (guitar), and Joe Everett (bass)—draws inspiration from acoustic giants such as Nickel Creek, Crooked Still, Hot Rize, and John Hartford. Pretty Saro has performed throughout the Northeast, including at FreshGrass Festival, Joe Val Bluegrass Festival, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Club Passim, and Daryl’s House Club.
