Technology for Independent Recording and Production Students

As an undergraduate Berklee student majoring in independent recording and production (IRP), the required hardware and software listed below will be essential to your success.


Required Hardware 

  • Minimum four-mic preamp audio interface

  • Two dynamic microphones

  • Matched pair of multi-pattern condenser microphones

  • Four mic stands (including at least one short stand) and four mic cables

  • Studio-quality closed-back headphones 

  • 25-key minimum MIDI keyboard

  • Pair of equal capacity hard drives (1 TB minimum)

As part of the IRP program, the department chairs have arranged for a special hardware discount with Sweetwater Sound that will be exclusive to Berklee students and deeper than what you will find advertised at the Sweetwater website (as much as 20% or more below minimum advertised price (MAP) depending on the specific items you choose).

Required Software

Upon successfully declaring IRP as your major, your account will be billed for the major bundle along with all other College charges. All IRP majors will receive the major bundle. The software bundle will be emailed to you during the first week of the semester. 

In addition to the IRP major bundle, you are required to own software included in the Core Software Package as well as purchase the following software on your own:

Econ Technologies ChronoSync (requires OnePass login)—instructions for purchasing ChronoSync with a Berklee exclusive discount can be found on the MP&E department site.
