Performances by Berklee students and directed by Renese King '90, choral director of the Union United Methodist and Waymark SDA churches, with William Banfield, professor of liberal arts, and Alizon Lissance, associate professor of harmony.
Original music by the student winners of the Songwriting for Social Change Contest.
Janis Ian is the writer of "Jesse," a song recorded by so many others that few remember Ian wrote it; "Stars," recorded by artists as diverse as Mel Torme and Cher; and the seminal "At Seventeen," a song that brought her five Grammy nominations. Her discography includes 52 albums; her publications include the science fiction anthology Stars and the anti-RIAA article "The Internet Debacle"; and her foundation, named for her mother, works with various universities and colleges to supply scholarships for returning students. In 2008, Ian published the autobiography Society's Child. The accompanying double-CD set, Best of Janis Ian, contains 31 tracks and is the first "best of" Ian has ever released in North America. Copies of Society's Child and the Best of Janis Ian are available at the Berklee Bookstore.
RSVP to Barbara Thomas at brthomas@berklee.edu or 617 747-2552.
Cosponsored by the Liberal Arts Department, the Professional Education Division, the Office for Cultural Diversity, and the Office of Faculty Development.
Special thanks to Pat Pattison, professor of liberal arts, for his help in organizing this event.
