Discover Berklee (2002)
Berklee is the world's premier learning lab for the music of todayand tomorrow. We have more than a dozen performance and non-performance majors, a diverse and talented student body representing 75 countries, and a music industry who's who of alumni.
The diversity of musical influences, styles, and visions being explored here every day in classrooms, practice rooms, and on stage is central to the Berklee experience. But as you can imagine, that same diversity makes the task of choosing representative tracks for "Discover Berklee (2002)" maddeningly difficult.
We've selected examples that range from r&b/funk to big band jazz to rock to folk and everything in between; but for all these stylistic jumps, the level of talent and artistry present in the musicians, writers, arrangers, engineers, and producers on each cut is constant.
When you walk into the lobby of Berklee's 150 Mass. Ave. building (where most of these tracks were recorded), there is an energy you can feel. All around you are students going to class, to compose, to practice, or to study. It's a building alive with talent, promise, and with a spirit of fearless musical exploration. It's a proving ground for new ideas and expressions where the work of moving music forward gets done. It's a feeling you really should visit us to experience for yourself. But until then, I hope you'll be able to hear it in the 26 tracks of this set.
