Applying for Housing

Applying for residence hall housing is a separate process from applying for admission to the college. The housing application process takes place only after you have been accepted to the college and have confirmed your acceptance by submitting your admissions tuition deposit. Because residence hall space is limited, not all accepted and confirmed entering students are able to apply for housing.

It is important to know that Berklee College of Music is not a college where a high percentage of students live in residence halls. Most Berklee students, including many entering students, live in private apartments in the neighborhoods near the college. As you think about housing at Berklee, we suggest that you take a look at the Off-Campus Housing pages to familiarize yourself with the alternatives to residence hall housing.

For each semester, the college's Admissions Office and Housing Office determine which accepted and confirmed entering students will be mailed housing applications based on criteria such as the date of the student's admissions tuition deposit confirmation and whether the student was originally accepted to enter the college for a previous term but was unable to do so. In general, the earlier you are accepted to the college and submit your admissions tuition deposit, the better chance you have of qualifying to apply for residence hall housing.

Fall Semester - Housing applications are mailed to accepted/confirmed entering students starting in early February and we continue mailing until all the residence hall spaces available for entering students are reserved. In recognition of the much longer time it takes for international students to receive and return housing applications, some spaces are saved specifically for international students.

Spring Semester - Few residents leave the residence halls in December, so only a small number of spaces become available for Spring Semester. The Admissions Office determines which accepted/confirmed entering students receive Spring Semester housing applications based on date of confirmation and other criteria. Housing applications are mailed to that limited group of students in mid October.

Summer Term - Housing applications are mailed to accepted/confirmed entering students starting in early March and we continue mailing until all the residence hall spaces available for entering students are reserved. For information about applying for housing for the Summer Performance Program and other special summer programs, please refer to the Summer Program Housing page.
