Jarana Beat brings the best of Mexican folk music and dance to the New York art scene and the Berklee community. Dressed in vibrant costumes, dancers interweave percussive footwork with the music of regional rhythms. Skilled young musicians from Mexico deliver the unique music of their homeland using traditional instruments and verse structures such as the pastern, sextuplet, and décima. Performing since 2008, Jarana Beat offers a colorful journey through the Afro-Amerindian culture of Mexico.
