Recital Class for Music Education Majors
A performance class for music education majors. Students prepare for solo and ensemble presentations intended to demonstrate satisfactory proficiency on their principal instrument.
Instrument Repair 3
Part three of ME-387 and ME-P388, this course covers keyboard instrument repair, including minor tuning of standard pianos.
Instrument Repair 2
Part two of ME-387, this course addresses the rebuilding of woodwind, brass, string, and percussion instruments, especially those needing significant work.
Composition, Technology, and the K-12 Student
The study of composition is fundamental to understanding the expressive qualities of music. It provides an ideal framework for exploration and experimentation with the basic materials of music.
Music in Early Childhood
This course will introduce students to music education for young children, from birth through the first five years of life.
Practice Teaching/Seminar
Student teaching experience in elementary or secondary schools. A minimum of 450 clock hours practice teaching in kindergarten to grade 12 is required.
Pre-Practicum Apprenticeship/Seminar
Assigned practical experience in elementary and secondary schools of the Greater Boston area. Minimum of 45 hours field work at the site.
Instrumental Methods and Materials
An overview of the instrumental instruction program in the K-12 schools. Detailed examination of teaching techniques for beginning instrumental students.
Instrument Repair 1
This course will address instrument repair for brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments used in traditional ensembles.
Methods and Materials for Marching Band
An overview of basic marching band techniques. Emphasis on the study of commands and maneuvers, color guard techniques, and charting procedures necessary for the development of half-time shows.
Survey of Choral Music Literature
A survey for music education majors of choral literature for and/or performed by solo, small, and large ensembles in the elementary and secondary public schools.
Survey of Instrumental Literature
A survey for music education majors of literature written for, and/or performed by, bands and orchestras in the elementary and secondary public schools.
Music Education Orff Ensemble
Students will learn a series of pieces to be played on Orff instruments.
Preparing for the Music Licensing Exam
This course will include suggestions for test taking, memorizing material, organizing time, creating calendars, working on personal motivation techniques, taking multiple choice tests, and writing
Teaching With a Multicultural Perspective
This course will enable students to experience music of diverse cultures and give them skills for developing their own resources.
Music, the Brain, and Learning
This course introduces students to the function and structure of the brain and its application to their own study of music.
Suzuki, Gordon, and Dalcroze: Approaches to Music Education
This course will present the educational philosophies, objectives, teaching methods, and musical materials of the Suzuki, Gordon, and Dalcroze methods of music education.
